Unit Objectives:

  • UO1: Students will apply new vocabulary words in different contexts to improve their communication in Second language SL.
  • UO2: Students will create a story to use the new vocabulary words in communication in SL
  • UO3: Students will summarize the knowledge acquired to communicate in SL using the five skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking, and culture).

Activity One

Activity:
Description:Students listen to 15 new Arabic vocabulary words on the CD or use the web accompanied with the textbook to do the listening. The students will follow these steps: First: Listen and repeat each word three times. Second: Practice reading each word loud. Third: Write sentences using the online listening drill 1. Bring Drill 1 written on a paper.Modality: Individual learning
Activity Sequence: Pre-class activity
Objectives Supported: UO1
Horton Type: Absorb, the students will learn and how to ready, say and use new vocabulary words in a context.
Bloom’s Level: Apply and understand
Evidence: Writing each sentence in drill 1 on a paper and handing them to be corrected.
Time on Task: 20 minutes
Required Knowledge: Listen to the CD or use the textbook web and practice the new vocabulary words

Activity Sequence: This follows online listening and doing drill 1.

Evidence: Participation in group presentations
Time on Task: 30 minutes, 15minutes group work 15minutes presentations. Each group will use four pictures given by the teacher which are related to culture and use the new vocabulary words and some sentences from drill 1 to make a story and then present it in class.
Required Knowledge: Reading the vocabulary list before class and doing drill 1.
Pedagogical Role: Encourage peer interaction and support small group communication.
Social Role: How to communicate effectively with each other
Managerial Role: Define the rules of interactions among each other.
Technical Role: Review the new vocabulary words prior to the activity.

Description:Summarize the story presented in writing using the new vocabulary words. Each student will write three well-structured sentences. Each student will share one sentence in class.Modality: Individual

Evidence: Final product is new vocabulary words in context.
